What with Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy all in various stages of production, you would have thought that Marvel had plenty on its hands for the time being, but if The Daily Mail is to be believed, the studio is already turning its attention towards casting on 2015’s big superhero sequel The Avengers 2. According to a report in the newspaper today, British actresses Emily Blunt (The Adjustment Bureau, Looper) and Ruth Wilson (Luther, Anna Karenina) are “head-to-head” in the race to join the likes of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) in the role of Carol Danvers / Ms. Marvel.
Although the Mail offers up no further information to support their claim, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see Ms. Marvel joining the line-up of the sequel; writer-director Joss Whedon has previously confirmed that he plans to increase the roster of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for The Avengers 2, while Marvel clearly has ambitions to introduce Carol Danvers into the Cinematic Universe, having previously planned to include the character as part of the line-up of the ultimately aborted TV series AKA Jessica Jones, an adaptation of the Alias comic book title from Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg. Meanwhile Emily Blunt has twice been linked to Marvel roles, having been Jon Favreau’s first choice for the Black Widow in Iron Man 2 (losing out to Scarlett Johansson due to scheduling conflicts) and turning down the part of Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger – a role which was ultimately filled by Hayley Atwell.
Would you like to see Ms. Marvel joining the line-up of The Avengers 2, and if so who should Joss Whedon cast in the role?
