Emily Blunt is set to reunite with her Jungle Cruise co-star Dwayne Johnson for Benny Safdie’s MMA drama The Smashing Machine.
According to The Insneider the Academy Award nominated actor is in talks for the A24 drama, which will focus on the life of the legendary MMA fighter Mark Kerr.
As well as being a reunion with Dwayne Johnson, The Smashing Machine would also find Emily Blunt teaming up with her Oppenheimer co-star Safdie, who has also written the script for Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions.
Borrowing its title from the 2002 HBO documentary The Smashing Machine: The Life And Times Of Extreme Fighter Mark Kerr, A24 describe the film adaptation as “a drama based on the story of Mark Kerr, the legendary MMA fighter from the no-holds-barred era of the UFC at the peak of his career. He struggles with addiction, winning, love and friendship in the year 2000.”
Next up for Emily Blunt is David Leitch’s comedy blockbuster The Fall Guy, in which she stars alongside fellow Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling, while Good Times and Uncut Gems director Safdie is currently in post-production on his Untitled Adam Sandler project, and Dwayne Johnson is filming Disney’s live-action adaptation of Moana.
