Variety is reporting that Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom) has signed on to the cast of Mary Poppins Returns, and will play the now adult Jane Banks, who was one of the two children in the classic 1964 original.
Mary Poppins Returns sees Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow) as the magical nanny alongside Meryl Streep (Into the Woods) as Mary’s cousin Topsy, Ben Whishaw (Spectre) as Michael Banks and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) as a street lamplighter called Jack.
Rob Marshall (Into the Woods) is directing the film, which takes place 25 years after the original movie and sees Mary Poppins revisiting the now grown-up Banks children after the family experiences a personal loss. It is set for release on Christmas Day 2018.
