After signing up Amanda Seyfried a few days ago, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Apple TV+ has now added Shameless star Emmy Rossum to the growing cast of the drama series The Crowded Room, where she will play the mother of Tom Holland (Spider-Man: No Way Home).
The 10-episode series is inspired by Daniel Keyes’ book The Minds of Billy Milligan and will see Holland playing Danny Sullivan, a man with dissociative identity disorder on trial for murder. Rossum – who is just 10 years Holland’s senior – will play his mother Candy, a woman who “is always looking for a man to fulfil her dreams of salvation.”
The Crowded Room will explore “inspirational stories of those who have struggled, and learned to successfully live with, mental illness.” It has been written by Akiva Goldsman (Star Trek: Discovery) who will executive produce. Kornel Mundruczo (Pieces of a Woman) will direct the season and executive produce with Goldsman and Holland.
