Sony’s sequel to this year’s surprise horror hit Escape Room has found a new competitor. Collider has revealed that Isabelle Fuhrman (Masters of Sex) has joined Escape Room 2, where she’ll star alongside returning stars Taylor Russell and Logan Miller.
Escape Room followed “six strangers who found themselves in a sadistic battle to survive an elaborate maze of deadly rooms”. As well as Russell and Miller, it starred Deborah Ann Woll, Jay Ellis, Tyler Labine and Nik Dodani with Adam Robitel directing. Robitel is also returning to direct the sequel with screenwriter Bragi F. Schut continuing the franchise.
Escape Room surprised at the box office by becoming a huge hit, earning $150 million off its $9 million budget. It ended with Miller and Russell’s Ben and Zoey heading to New York to track down the Gamemaster, unaware they are about to join a new escape room designed by the Gamemaster with the odds stacked even more against them.
Fuhrman is known for her roles in the first Hunger Games film as Clove, a rival Tribute who tries to kill Katniss, and her breakout role in the 2009 horror film Orphan. One of her upcoming roles will be in The Edge of Seventeen TV series for YouTube Red.
Escape Room 2 will be released November 30, 2020.
