The Hollywood Reporter has revealed a powerhouse team-up between Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe.
The outlet reports that Hawke and Crowe will star in The Weight, an upcoming historical period epic set in Oregon in 1933. Padraic McKinley will direct from an original screenplay by Shelby Gaines, Matthew Chapman, and Matthew Booi, based on an original story by Booi and Leo Scherman.
Per THR, “Hawke plays Samuel Murphy, who, after the death of his wife, is imprisoned in a labor camp run by Clancy, an unscrupulous overseer (Crowe). Murphy only wants to escape and regain custody of his daughter, Penny, but becomes entangled in Clancy’s perilous gold smuggling scheme, facing threats from both the treacherous wilderness and potential betrayal within his own group.”
Fields Entertainment, Under The Influence, and augenschein Filmproduktion will produce in collaboration with Construction Film.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe in a film; the pair starred together in 2012’s The Way Back. Ethan Hawke plays one of the lead roles as a fellow escapee, and Russell Crowe plays a pivotal supporting role.
The Weight is set to begin principal photography in Bavaria this summer.
