Deadline is reporting that Ewan McGregor is in talks with Lucasfilm to reprise his role as the Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi for a live-action Star Wars TV show on the Disney+ streaming service.
As previously rumoured, Lucasfilm had been planning an Obi-Wan movie under its Star Wars Anthology banner, although both this and the long-planned Boba Fett film were put on hold following the box office failure of last year’s spinoff Solo: A Star Wars Story.
The Kenobi project then morphed into a TV series, and it is expected that McGregor will soon close his deal ahead of an official announcement during Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim later this month.
Disney+ already has two live-action Star Wars projects incoming; the first, the Jon Favreau-produced The Mandalorian, is already pushing ahead with development on a second season ahead of its November premiere, while Diego Luna is attached to reprise his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story role as Cassian Andor for an as-yet-untitled show.
