While over in London to promote Daredevil, Flickering Myth’s Deputy Editor Luke Owen caught up with Charlie Cox to talk about the series and look ahead to season two. With the new season being announced for next year, how will this affect the line up of other shows including Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders?
“Yeah, I don’t really know [how it affects The Defenders], that’s being discussed by people who are much more important than I am,” Cox told us. “If you watch the first season, you discover that it’s Matt Murdock’s evolution into Daredevil. So by the time we get to the end, we’ve only just touched on that. So I think it’s valid to have another 13 hours where we see Matt Murdock inhabit Daredevil and live in that persona. So we’ll do that this year and it will presumably be released next year, and then we’ll go into Defenders after that.”
When asked about what storylines he’d like to explore in the new series, Cox spoke about a few comic book arcs he was impressed with from the people like of Brian Michael Bendis, but also suggested some new characters to join the cast.
“There’s other characters I’d like to see come in,” he told us. “I’d be interested to see a dynamic between Matt Murdock and Elektra or Black Widow or something like that. I hope we haven’t lost Wilson Fisk, hopefully he’s still bubbling away in the background.”
Black Widow, currently played by Scarlett Johansson in Avengers: Age of Ultron (read our spoiler free review here), did play a big part in Daredevil comics in the 1970s and there were plans for a Daredevil and Black Widow TV show that never got off the ground (read out that here). Could we see Johansson make the move to the smaller screen with the Black Widow character? It seems unlikely. But Elektra? That seems very plausible.
We also briefly discussed joining The Avengers, perhaps for Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 & 2. The actor simply said, “At this point, it’s not been discussed with me. But I would jump at the opportunity. It would be a dream come true.”
