Tai Freligh interviews Sacred Lies actress Jordan Alexander…
Jordan Alexander is a dynamic and unique young artist on the rise. A native of Toronto, Canada she started her career as a talented singer/songwriter who was encouraged to pursue acting by her sister. About six months after being discovered and signed by her manager, Jordan booked her first acting gig, a starring role opposite Juliette Lewis and Ryan Kwanten in the Facebook Watch anthology series Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones which premiered February 20th. She has already been singled out for her breakout performance in reviews for the drama, a role which also showcases her mesmerizing signing voice. On the music side, Jordan released her debut album in 2016 titled, The Lonely Hearts Club, which was comprised of 10 personal and self-penned songs, produced by Grammy nominated and Juno award winning producer Gerald Eaton. Jordan has performed at Pride Celebrations across North America and performed with singer-songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen at Toronto Pride in 2019. Jordan is a vocal supporter of women, black and indigenous people groups and the LGBTQ* community. Flickering Myth’s Tai Freligh caught up with Jordan to ask her about Sacred Lies: The Singing Bone, what her first major role was like and how she uses social media.
Tell us about Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones…what is the show about?
Sacred Lies is a show about our deepest darkest demons and what motivates us to reach for change. A longing for love even when we feel undeserving of it.
Were you recruited for the role or was it an open casting call?
Open casting. I actually auditioned for Harper and Elsie at the same time.
What was your audition like?
I did a self-tape, and I really like doing self-tapes, but that day happened to be a very stressful day and I forgot to “really cry” when that’s what the script called for. I had to do it over again
the next day because I wasn’t happy with it. It’s so nice to be able to have the flexibility to really show casting what I could do.
How does it feel to have your first major lead role?
It’s fantastic, probably the best thing I’ve felt. It just boosts me. If I’m feeling down, thinking about that definitely settles my mind. I feel really proud of myself and am grateful to the people around me who helped make it happen.
Were you familiar with the show from the first season?
I wasn’t, but once I got the audition, I was so into the writing that I went and watched the first season. Twice.
Talk about your character and what she’s doing in this season?
Elsie is searching desperately. She needs to find her family for more reasons than just that she’ll be homeless after her 18th birthday.
What was it like working with Ryan Kwanten and Juliette Lewis?
Insane. They are such cool, funny, awesome people not to mention how talented and iconic they are. It was a safe and kind working environment, they both made sure of that.
Any funny set stories?
During the kiss scene between Elsie and Terrence, Terrence is supposed to walk back inside after but somehow the door had been locked and so Odiseas (who plays Terrence) banged into
the door and we were dying laughing. It still makes me laugh actually.
Describe what it’s like being in a show on Facebook Watch?
It’s super great because there’s a built-in fan base that we can interact with, and it’s really nice to see in real time, how excited people are. Connecting people directly to the art and creators all in the same place.
How engaged with the Sacred Lies Keepers and community will you be during the season?
Very. My sisters and I are always combing through comments, because it’s really fun to interact with people who are excited by the show.
What’s your favourite social media platform?
I like Instagram.
How do you use social media?
To talk to friends and to find stuff I like.

Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones premiered on Thursday, February 20 on Facebook Watch and has it’s season finale on April 9th.
The second season of the anthology series features a new cast and a storyline that draws inspiration from a story collected from the Brothers Grimm, The Singing Bone, as well as real-life murder cases. This season of Sacred Lies follows Elsie (Jordan Alexander) as she searches for the family she never knew after being abandoned as a child. The search leads her to her father, Peter (Ryan Kwanten), an inmate who may be guilty of more than the crimes he’s currently incarcerated for and Harper (Juliette Lewis), a telemarketer turned arm-chair detective with an obsessive hobby of searching for unidentified murder victims. Kristin Bauer will recur as Elsie’s foster mother, Shannon.
The series stars Juliette Lewis as Harper, Ryan Kwanten as Peter, Jordan Alexander as Elsie, and Kristin Bauer as Shannon. Additionally, Kimiko Glenn, Antonique Smith, Siobhan Williams, Emily Alyn Lind, and Odiseas Georgiadis will appear in recurring roles.
Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones is produced by Blumhouse Television. Executive producer and showrunner Raelle Tucker (True Blood, The Returned, Jessica Jones), developed the season based on a story collected from the Brothers Grimm, The Singing Bone, as well as real-life murder cases. Two-time Emmy Award-winner Scott Winant (Fargo, My So Called Life) is returning as an executive producer. Also, serving as executive producers on behalf of Blumhouse Television are Jason Blum, Marci Wiseman, and Jeremy Gold.
