Expect some Thanos jokes in Deadpool 2, according to Josh Brolin

March 13, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After doing battle with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as Thanos in April’s Avengers: Infinity War, Josh Brolin will make a quick return to the superhero movie genre in May as he takes on the role of Cable opposite Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool 2.

Given Deadpool’s habit for breaking the fourth wall, it seems a pretty safe bet that Wade Wilson will be cracking a few jokes about the Mad Titan in the X-Men spinoff sequel, and Brolin has seemingly confirmed that during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“I can’t imagine there’s not going to be any [laughs],” replied Brolin when asked whether we can expect any Thanos jokes. I’ll put it that way. I’m up here right now in snowy Vancouver doing reshoots for Deadpool. Given that it’s a satire of all superhero movies, especially Marvel movies, how can you not?”

Of course, this won’t be the first time that Deadpool has referenced other superhero movies, with the first movie featuring nods to Green Lantern and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, while the recent Deadpool 2 trailer also featured a jab at Superman’s CGI moustache removal in Justice League.

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Deadpool 2 sees David Leitch (John Wick) directing a cast that includes returning stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) alongside new additions Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) as Cable, Jack Kesy (The Strain) as the film’s villain, and Shioli Kutsuna (The Outsider), Eddie Marsan (Atomic Blonde), Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) and Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on May 18th 2018.
