After news earlier in the week that no less than three filmmakers were in the mix for the next Fast & Furious film, it looks like we now have official confirmation of the new director.
Straight Outta Compton helmer F. Gary Gray has officially confirmed via his Twitter page that he has agreed to direct Fast & Furious 8 for Universal Pictures. He had been close to a deal earlier in the week when Adam Wingard (The Guest) and Loius Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk) were both also linked with the job.
Development on the newest installment in the enormously successful franchise is already well underway, with the entire cast of Furious 7 set to return, including Vin Diesel (also the film’s producer), Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell and Jason Statham, although we may yet get a new big-bad as well.
Fast & Furious 7 grossed over $1.5 billion at the worldwide box-office this summer, and is out now on Blu-ray and DVD in the US and UK.
