A Reddit user has posted pictures of what seems to be the incredibly rare prototype which Sony made for Nintendo during their brief partnership some 25 years ago.
The prototype itself was created in 1990-91 as a disc playing add-on for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, however, the deal turned on its head after Nintendo embarrassed Sony by partnering with Phillips to create the add-on instead. Rumour has it that Sony executive, Ken Kutaragi, then went on to pour funds into creating the Sony Playstation, without the support of Nintendo. Over the years this has developed into the famous rivalry we know today.
The prototype was discovered by the son of a businessmen who had a number of ties with Sony, allegedly working with Olaf Ollafsson, the head Sony Entertainment executive during 1991.
If these images are legit (fingers crossed they are) then this would mean Reddit user, ‘Dnldbld‘, has stumbled across a huge chunk of video game history, essentially the Holy Grail of game consoles.
A number of people are trying to contact the Reddit user to establish the legitimacy of the photos, so stay posted for more information coming soon.
