After the disappointing reaction to Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, we reported earlier this year that production on Fantastic Beasts 3 had now been pushed back to spring 2020. Today, Deadline announced that Warner Bros. has officially green lit production for the third instalment in JK Rowling’s latest expansion of the Wizarding World franchise – confirming its spring 2020 start date.
Fantastic Beasts has taken us all over the globe with the first film largely set in New York City and its sequel, in Paris. It seems Fantastic Beasts 3 will take us to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as many expected. Actress Jessica Williams,is also set the take on a much bigger role. Williams played Professor Eulalie “Lally” Hicks – a teacher at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry – in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Much like how Zoe Kravitz’s role as Leta Lestrange grew between the first and second film, so it seems Williams’ will going into the third instalment.
In addition, Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, Johnny Depp, Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, and Katherine Waterston are all set to return as Newt Scamander, Albus Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald, Credence/Aurelius Dumbledore, Queenie Goldstein, Jacob Kowalski, and Tina Goldstein.
Fantastic Beasts 3 is scheduled for release on November 12th 2021.
