Warner Bros have pulled whatever the Hogwarts name for a rabbit-out-of-a-hat spell is by announcing that the third film in the Fantastic Beasts series of blockbusters will be called Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. But that’s not all magic fans, because they’ve also revealed that it will be released earlier than expected on April 15, 2022.

For a series of films that deal with curses, the franchise has certainly had some obstacles to overcome since the first Fantastic Beasts grossed over $800M at the worldwide box-office back in 2016. There was the the lackluster critical and commercial reception of the sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald, which limped towards a Harry Potter universe low of $650M in 2018, coupled with the old casting switcheroo made by the studio, which resulted in Johnny Depp being replaced by Mads Mikkelsen, and it’s a miracle the movie made it to the screen at all, let alone as soon as April 15, 2022.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore was originally slated for a July release, and sees Jude Law return as Dumbledore, Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander and Mads Mikkelsen take over the role of the central villain, Gellert Grindelwald, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Callum Turner, Jessica Williams, William Nadylam and Katherine Waterston also star.
So there you have it, you can put the title and release date in your Hogwarts homework diaries, that is if you’re still excited for this particular strand of the wizarding world. Let us know by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
