Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was the lowest grossing entry into J.K. Rowling’s entire Wizarding World franchise, eking out $653 million at the worldwide box-office. It was also the worst received of the series, earning just 37% on Rotten Tomatoes. So this news should hardly be a Transfiguration lesson level surprise to anyone: Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that Fantastic Beasts 3 will be delayed a year, with production scheduled to begin in Spring 2020.
Announcing the news, President of Worldwide Theatrical Distribution and Home Entertainment, Ron Sanders said “J.K. Rowling created an awe-inspiring universe that has captivated people of all ages, taking us on an extraordinary magical journey. Warner Bros. is so proud to be the cinematic home of the Wizarding World and is excited about the future of the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise. We look forward to bringing the third chapter of the five-film series to audiences around the globe in November 2021”
With the exact date set as November 12, 2021, the third installment will see Eddie Redmayne return as Newt Scamandar, alongside Johnny Depp, who will reprise his role as the dastardly Grindelwald.
