Last year it was reported that Tr-Star were developing a sequel to the cult fantasy adventure Labyrinth, and now it looks like the studio is ready to move forward with the project.
According to THR, Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez has signed on to helm the film, as well as co-writing the script with Jay Basu (the duo are also currently working together on The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).
Guardians of the Galaxy screenwriter Nicole Perlman had previously worked on the script for the new film, which is once again being produced by The Jim Henson Company.
The site reports that the new film will not be a remake or reboot, but a continuation of the original story. Jareth The Goblin King – played by the late David Bowie in the original – will not feature.
