Fede Alvarez shocked horror fans with his killer Evil Dead remake in 2013 and now he looks to do it again with another classic genre franchise in Alien.
Yes, the filmmaker behind Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead will write and direct an original stand-alone Alien feature for 20th Century Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Franchise creator Ridley Scott will produce via his Scott Free banner. Scott directed the original 1979 film along with Prometheus in 2013 andAlien: Covenant in 2017.
Little is known about the plot of Alvarez’s film, but it is said to be completely different from other entries and will serve as a stand-alone project with no ties to other films. THR says Fede Alvarez pitched an idea to Ridley Scott years ago, and only recently has Scott come around and wants to expand on that idea.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that 20th Century picked up the project “purely off the strength of Fede’s pitch,” as per president Steve Asbell, who added that: “It was just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before.”

What can be said about the Alien that hasn’t been mentioned before? 1979’s Alien launched a massive franchise with seven other films, including two crossovers with Predator and the two recent prequels. There’s also a TV series in development from Noah Hawley and Ridley Scott, heading to FX some time in 2023.
