Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation got some rather exciting news last year when it was announced that Patrick Stewart will be reprising his role as Jean-Luc Picard for a brand new series on CBS All Access, and now we have word that filming on the show is underway.
Trek Movie reports that filming on the as-yet-untitled Picard show began this past Monday, April 22nd, with the shoot expected to last through to September. Hanelle Culpepper (Criminal Minds, The Flash) is directing the first two episodes, with Stewart’s TNG co-star and Trek veteran Jonathan Frakes getting behind the camera for episodes three and four of an expected ten.
Although specific plot details are being kept under wraps, the series is set around two decades after the end of The Next Generation and will reportedly deal with the aftermath of the destruction of Romulus as seen in 2009’s Star Trek movie.
Joining Stewart in the cast of the Picard series are Santiago Cabera (Salvation), Michelle Hurd (Blindspot), Alison Pill (The Newsroom), Harry Treadaway (Mr. Mercedes), Isa Briones (Takers) and Evan Evagora (Fantasy Island).
