Having worked together on two horror-comedy makeovers with the recent Ghostbusters legacy sequels, Finn Wolfhard and Jason Reitman are set to reteam for a remake of 1999’s Idle Hands.
According to Variety Wolfhard will collaborate with Billy Bryk to write the script, the two having just co-wrote, co-directed, co-starred in and produced festival favourite Hell of a Summer, which has been sold to Neon with a planned summer 2025 release. Jason Reitman will produce the film for Sony Pictures, alongside Jennifer Todd and Suzanne Todd via their Team Todd banner. Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire director Gil Keenan will also serve as a producer.
Released in 1999, Idle Hands told the bizzarro tale of slacker teen Anton Tobias (Devon Sawa), who has his right hand possessed by a demonic force, only to find that his life gets a lot more interesting because of it. While Anton himself is a likeable guy, his hand turns out to be an appendage of death, killing his two best buddies, Pnub (Elden Henson) and Mick (Seth Green), who come back to life as wisecracking zombies. The film also starred Jessica Alba as Anton’s next door neighbour and potential love-interest.

The film stiffed at the box-office, but has developed a cult following over the years, so-much-so that Wolfhard and Bryk want to use it to breathe new life into the teen movie genre.
