We now have our first official look at Adam Driver as former race car driver and automobile designer Enzo Ferrari in Michael Mann’s upcoming biopic Ferrari.
Ferrari takes place in the summer of 1957 and follows the ex-racecar driver as “bankruptcy stalks the company he and his wife, Laura, built from nothing ten years earlier. Their tempestuous marriage struggles with the mourning for one son and the acknowledgement of another. He decides to counter his losses by rolling the dice on one race – 1,000 miles across Italy, the iconic Mille Miglia.”
Ferrari sees Adam Driver leading a cast that includes Penelope Cruz (Parallel Mothers) as Ferrari’s wife Laura and Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies) as his mistress Lina Lardi.
Also starring in the film are Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) as race car driver Piero Taruffi, Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) as fellow driver Peter Collins, Sarah Gadon (All My Puny Sorrows) as Linda Christian and Gabriel Leone (Mercy) as Fon De Portago.
Michael Mann is directing Ferrari from a script by Troy Kennedy Martin (The Italian Job), which is based upon the book Ezno Ferrari – The Man and the Machine by Brock Yates. It is currently in production in Italy and is expected to release at some point in 2023.
