First look at Kate Beckinsale in action thriller Canary Black

November 2, 2022 by Gary Collinson

With filming now officially underway in Croatia, a first-look image from the action thriller Canary Black has been released showcasing Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) as CIA operative Avery Graves.

The film is being directed by Pierre Morel (Peppermint) from a script by Matthew Kennedy (Inheritance), and sees Beckinsale starring alongside Rupert Friend (Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi). The official synopsis reads:

A top CIA operative, Avery Graves, is blackmailed by terrorists into betraying her own country to save her kidnapped husband. Cut off from her team, she turns to her underworld contacts to survive and help locate the coveted intelligence that the kidnappers want. Betrayed at every turn, she must rely on her cutting-edge training and primitive fighting skills in a deadly race to deliver a ransom that could trigger a global crisis.

Kate Beckinsale is coming off another action thriller in last year’s Jolt from Prime Video [read our review here], while Morel is no stranger to female-led action having directed 2018’s Peppermint starring Jennifer Garner [read our review here].
