Matt Damon has been quite busy during the pandemic, having wrapped Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel, and then flown to Australia to film his extended cameo in Thor: Love and Thunder, but we’re now getting our first glimpse of him in Spotlight director Tom McCarthy’s upcoming film Stillwater, which was delayed from its original Fall 2020 release date because of, well, you know the drill by now.
These exclusive Entertainment Weekly pictures show Damon as Bill Baker, an oil-rig worker whose life is torn apart when his daughter (played by Abigail Breslin) is charged with a murder while living in Marseille. He travels to France and makes it his personal mission to exonerate her and along the way develops a friendship with a local woman and her young daughter and embarks on a personal journey of discovery and a larger sense of belonging in the world.
Co-written by McCarthy alongside Marcus Hinchey, Thomas Bidegain, and Noé Debré, Stillwater will be released in North American cinemas on July 30th and in the UK on August 6th.
