Popeye the Sailor is heading into the public domain in January, and so as we’ve seen with the likes of Winnie-the-Pooh and Mickey Mouse the past couple of years, we can expect an influx of horror movies inspired by the iconic cartoon character.
Vying to be first out of the gate is ITN Studios, the company behind Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey and the ‘Twisted Childhood Universe’, who has shared a selection of first-look images from director William Stead’s Popeye, a “raunchy and gory slasher” that will see “the legend of Popeye haunting a group of councilors as they intend to open a summer camp.”
UPDATE: The Popeye slasher already has some competition with the horror-comedy Shiver Me Timbers, which has shared a first-look teaser trailer and images that you can find here. Meanwhile, the Popeye first look follows below…
Popeye is slated for release in January 2025.
