Fletch returns to the big screen this year as Jon Hamm follows in the footsteps of Chevy Chase by taking on the role of author Gregory Mcdonald’s investigative reporter Irwin M. Fletcher in Miramax’s franchise reboot Confess, Fletch, and thanks to Entertainment Weekly we have our first look at Hamm’s Fletch, alongside his co-stars John Slattery and Marcia Gay Harden.
Chevy Chase originally portrayed Fletch in the 1985 cult classic and its 1989 sequel Fletch Lives, while a reboot/revival of the series has been stuck in development hell for much of the time since, with the director and star duos of Kevin Smith and Jason Lee and Bill Lawrence and Zach Braff attached at various points prior to this current incarnation.
As per Entertainment Weekly, Confess, Fletch “sees the journalist become the prime suspect in a murder case while searching for his heiress girlfriend’s stolen art collection. To prove his innocence, he must work his way through a long list of suspects and determine which one is the real culprit — a lineup that includes an eccentric art dealer, a missing playboy, a flamboyant countess, and even Fletch’s girlfriend.”
Confess, Fletch is directed by Greg Mottola (Superbad) and features a cast that includes Jon Hamm, Marcia Gay Harden, Kyle MacLachlan, John Slattery, Roy Wood Jr., Lorenza Izzo, and Annie Mumolo.
