In some scary news that easily could have been much worse, former Green Power Ranger Jason David Frank was targeted for murder by an attendee who reportedly brought in three loaded weapons and vests into this weekend’s ongoing Phoenix Comicon.
The potential gunman was identified as Matthew Sterling, who is said to have had reminders in his phone to “kill JDF” (an obvious reference to Jason David Frank who was on stage last night). He also claimed to be a real-life version of the Marvel vigilante The Punisher, and was ready to kill “bad police officers”.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers star Frank spoke to TMZ about the situation, noting that security is far too lax at the events, specifically citing another incident involving a fan showing off a loaded weapon.
Thankfully, no one was hurt but as someone who does regularly attend similar events, I can confirm that security is often inadequate and barely concerned with checking bags or protecting anyone. Hopefully, this is a lesson to tighten things up.
