Fox CEO on the possibility of rebooting Wolverine and Logan’s Oscar chances

September 23, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Now that Hugh Jackman has hung up his claws and called time on his run as Wolverine, 20th Century Fox are faced with the difficult task of whether or not to reintroduce the fan favourite mutant into its series of X-Men movies with another actor stepping in to his shoes.

While Jackman himself believes it is inevitable, X-Men director Bryan Singer and producer Simon Kinberg have previously stated that they think recasting Logan would be impossible, while Logan producer Hutch Parker has also said “the idea of casting someone else as Wolverine is just not something I can think about.”

However, it seems it is not off the table, as Fox chairman and CEO Stacey Snider has said that “anything’s possible” when asked by Variety whether the character of Wolverine will be rebooted. Meanwhile, she also pushed Logan’s Oscar chances, saying that it “absolutely” deserves to be in the race, and “the way it combines classic storytelling with superhero lore is brilliant.”

Given that Jackman has only just retired from the role and Fox is pushing Logan’s Oscar chances, it would seem unlikely that the studio will make any announcement about rebooting the character just yet. However, one would have to expect we will be seeing the return of the character sooner rather than later.

Let us know in the comments who you’d like to see taking on the role of Wolverine, and whether you can see Logan making an impact at the Academy Awards…
