Good news for fans of Seth MacFarlane’s live-action sci-fi comedy series The Orville, as it has been announced that the series has secured an early season two renewal from Fox.
“Once again Seth has struck a powerful chord with viewers,” said Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn. “He has delivered a series full of optimism, drama and his trademark humor. We want to thank him and the rest of the talented cast, as well as the producers and crew, for an incredible first season. We can’t wait to see where The Orville travels in the second.”
The Orville is currently seven episodes into its 13-episode season one run, and Fox has made the decision to go ahead with an early renewal to give the production team a head start on season two, given the show’s elaborate production.
The premiere of The Orville scored 8.6 million viewers in Live+same day ratings, growing to 14 million across all platforms and giving Fox its highest-rated series launch since Empire in 2015. It continues to average 10 million viewers per episode across all platforms.
From Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, “Ted”) and directed by Jon Favreau (“The Jungle Book,” “Iron Man”), THE ORVILLE is a one-hour science fiction series set 400 years in the future that follows the adventures of the U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory vessel. Its crew, both human and alien, faces the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of regular people in a workplace…even though some of those people are from other planets, and the workplace is a faster-than-light spaceship.
