EJ Moreno looks at Fox Marvel characters who need redemption in Deadpool 3…
Marvel fans know the dark days that were endured at the cinemas to get to the once-peak MCU status we had. Some of the most beloved Marvel characters were handled so strangely in their original outings, feeling so far removed from what we know and loved, but that’s all that fans had to do.
But now, we are in an era where mistakes can be fixed, behind-the-scenes and on-screen. With the upcoming Deadpool 3, the film is shaping to be a send-off (or possible execution) of the 20th Century Fox Marvel era. Characters from all over that time of Marvel movies are rumored to return with one of the most infamous examples already confirmed.
So, we’ll return to the nearly two decades’ worth of 20th Century Fox Marvel characters and pick which deserves redemption or a shining moment in the “Deadpool Kills The 20th Century Fox”-themed Deadpool 3.
Elektra
Elektra is why we’re looking back at the Fox/Marvel characters since she was the first officially confirmed for Deadpool 3 – outside of the returning Hugh Jackman. Jennifer Garner will reprise the role in Deadpool’s introduction to the MCU, giving fans a new look at one of Daredevil’s most iconic counterparts. After her odd debut in 2003, the Elektra solo film was dropped in 2005 and gave us a Marvel low point.
Garner is a talented actress with years under her belt; the same goes for filmmakers and handling female characters. In the hands of the Deadpool team, an Elektra return could be great. It also helps to fill the gap that the missing Domino has left us.
Storm
Of all the characters included on this list, Halle Berry’s Storm had the most chances to shine during her time. Berry appeared in four X-Men films, all with optimal time in each outing, but it never met the fan’s high expectations. Storm is a crucial member of the X-Men team in the comics, and it’s hard to overstate how cinematic she should feel. Larger-than-life powers with this level of actor should’ve been a surefire hit.
Halle Berry’s appearance in Deadpool 3 won’t fix all the missed opportunities, but it could give some redemption to the character. At the least, we could see Storm and Deadpool made reference to bad frog jokes, wonky accents, and ever-evolving hairstyles.
Doctor Doom
Surely Kevin Feige and the team at Marvel Studios will hold off on showcasing Doctor Doom till their own Fantastic Four film, but how fun would it be to remind fans how far we’ve come with a 2005-era Doom appearing as a Deadpool 3 baddie? For this take, you could go with Toby Kebbell’s horrid version from the 2015 film, but let’s stick with Julian McMahon and his fantastic campy turn as Victor Von Doom.
The upcoming Deadpool movie needs a villain of sorts unless you count Deadpool killing off this era of filmmaking as a villain. So, placing McMahon’s Doom as a defacto bad guy gives fans a face to hate while also giving us something close to the Fox/Marvel cinematic universe.
Cyclops
If Halle Berry’s Storm had every moment to shine, the original X-Men movies gave James Marsden’s Cyclops every chance to fail. From forcing him into a love triangle where he was the loser to killing him off in a lackluster fashion, Cyclops was the punching bag in the original run, and it’s not fair to fans of the character. Putting Marsden on the same side as Deadpool instantly gives him the needed cred.
The meta jokes write themselves once you include Cyclops, especially alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Throw in a Famke Janssen cameo, and it’s a perfect storm for Deadpool to crack jokes. Could he have a redemptive badass arc? Sure. But we still need the humor.
Sue Storm
You could bring back the entire Fantastic Four cast from the 2005 and 2007 films, and we’d make a lot of people happy campers. The cast was unserviced in a time period when many didn’t know what to do with the genre, and none suffered from that more than Jessica Alba’s Sue Storm. The actress had little to do in the films, giving us just a brief glimpse of what we could get from this thrilling character.
It seems a bit of a stretch to include any of the Fantastic Four in Deadpool 3, as Feige will likely want not to spoil the brand. Still, Alba would make for a perfect cameo appearance that would cause cheers. Include her brother (played by Chris Evans), and you’d have a No Way Home moment.
Gambit
Out of all the picks included, Gambit is a wild card, especially since I want to see Channing Tatum’s never-before-seen Gambit finally get his moment in the spotlight. The actor was attached to the project in 2014, but the Disney merger with Fox stopped planned project development. His inclusion can easily fit into a cinematic universe that allows “What If?” scenarios and Tatum still speaks passionately about the role.
Deadpool 3 is the perfect place for Channing Tatum. Not only is he a hilarious comedic talent that could work well with Ryan Reynolds, but this movie seems to be the last chance he’ll ever have at this role. Let Gambit have his chapter in a film where Deadpool looks to close the book.

No matter who appears in the third Deadpool movie, it’s shaping into quite the event film. As production is delayed due to ongoing Hollywood strikes, we’ll have some to speculate who’ll appear before we get official confirmation of co-stars and cameos.
