It had been on the cards since Damon Wayans announced his plans to exit the series, but now it is official, with Fox cancelling its TV adaptation of Lethal Weapon after three seasons.
The Warner Bros.-produced take on the classic 80s buddy cop movie originally saw Damon Wayans’ Roger Murtaugh joined by Clayne Crawford as Martin Riggs, only for Fox to fire the latter after two seasons following various on set issues including a falling out with his co-star.
Despite Crawford’s exit, the show returned for a third season, with Seann William Scott taking on the role of the new character Wesley Cole. However, Wayans would announce back in October that he was quitting the show due to the toll it was taking on his health and family life. He did however agree to return for three extra episodes, leading to talk that he could be tempted back for a fourth season.
Away from all of the on-set drama, the series had been a decent enough ratings draw for Fox, with the season three finale (now the series finale) attracting 5.4 million viewers in total.
