Francis Ford Coppola says its a “pity” George Lucas got lost in Star Wars

December 10, 2015 by Gary Collinson

During an appearance at the Marrakech International Film Festival, director Francis Ford Coppola spoke about his good friend George Lucas, stating that he thinks it is a “pity” George Lucas got “lost” in the world of Star Wars at the expense of smaller, more experimental films.

“I think Star Wars, it’s a pity, because George Lucas was a very experimental crazy guy and he got lost in this big production and never got out of it,” states Coppola. “I still hope that he made so much money out of it that he will just make some little movies. He promises me that he will.”

Prior to Star Wars, Lucas had directed THX 1138 and American Graffiti, but he went on hiatus after the original Star Wars in 1977 and only returned to directing for the three Star Wars prequels.
