Frank Miller to return with The Dark Knight IV, Dark Knight Returns prequel The Last Crusade set to arrive in February

November 17, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Whiel DC’s upcoming limited series Dark Knight III: The Master Race has been billed as the final chapter of Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns trilogy, the acclaimed comic book creator has revealed to Newsrama that he’s now working on a fourth part in the series.

“I thoroughly applaud what [writer Brian Azzarello is] doing [on Dark Knight III: The Master Race],” said Miller. “But now that he’s doing his, it’s now a four-part series. I’m doing the fourth.”

Meanwhile, Miller is also set to return to his universe early next year with Dark Knight Returns: The Last Crusade, once again collaborating with co-writer Azzarello and artist John Romita Jr. for a prequel to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns that will explore the build up to Jason Todd’s death at the hands of the Joker. The 64-page one-shot is set for release on February 17th 2016.

Miller’s series got underway in 1986 with the seminal limited series Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, and was followed by the three-issue sequel Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again in 2001. Dark Knight III: The Master Race is set to get underway next Wednesday, November 25th, and you can take a look at a preview of the first issue here.
