Never shy in manoeuvring into the slipstream of success, Hollywood are quick to snap up the remake rights to an international hit, and that’s exactly what Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps production company and Lionsgate have done with Mads Mikkelsen’s Danish action-comedy Riders of Justice.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive report, Lionsgate has picked up the English-language adaptation rights to the Anders Thomas Jensen directed hit, and he will remain involved, adapting this version alongside his Riders of Justice co-writer Nikolaj Arcel.
Erin Westerman, Lionsgate’s president of production commented saying “There are few films that balance the action, emotion, and dark humor that Anders did so successfully in Riders of Justice. We’re confident that the movie will translate perfectly to English-language audiences as well.”
Riders of Justice followed Mads Mikkelsen’s recently-deployed Markus, who is forced to return home to care for his teenage daughter after his wife is killed in a tragic train accident. But when a survivor of the wrecked train surfaces claiming foul play, Markus begins to suspect his wife was murdered and embarks on a mission to find those responsible.
