Finding out that you’ve just landed a life-changing gig must be pretty extraordinary as it is, but for newcomer Jabari Banks it was made all that more special by the fact he was told by the man whose shoes he will have to fill in NBC Peacock’s reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith himself; take a look at the announcement video below..
Banks will play the role of Will, which was made famous by Smith in the beloved 90s sitcom. According to Variety’s brief bio on Jabari Banks, he currently lives in West Philadelphia (Born and Raised), also the birthplace of his character. He graduated from University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2020. In addition to acting, he is a songwriter, singer, rapper, and basketball player.
Bel-Air was born out of the viral video created by series writer/producer Morgan Cooper, which reimagined the sitcom as a hard-hitting drama. This led to Original The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Will Smith has announcing a two season order from NBC’s streaming service Peacock, and that the show would rework the classic series as serialized one-hour drama, which will take a deeper look into the conflicts, emotions, and racial biases that weren’t possible to tackle in the show’s 30-minute sitcom format. Though it will be a dark look at Will’s journey from West Philadelphia to Bel-Air, reports say the series will deliver the style and swagger of the original series.
