We’ve already got four Robin Hood movies in the pipeline from Lionsgate, Sony, Warner Bros. and Disney, and now we can add a fifth – albeit one with a sci-fi twist – with THR revealing that The Hollywood Gang’s futuristic reimagining of the English folk hero is moving ahead under a new screenwriter.
The project, which is tentatively titled Robin Hood 2058, will now be scripted by Tony Lee, a New York Times Bestselling author whose previous work in comics includes titles such as Spider-Man, Doctor Who and Star Trek. Jason Dean Hall (American Sniper) and Michael Ross (The Throwaways) have both contributed to earlier drafts.
Plot details for the film are being kept under wraps, but it is described as a “futuristic reimagining of Robin Hood [which is set in a] dystopian London with a rogue MI5 agent on a mission to avenge injustice.”
Lionsgate looks set to be the first out of the gate with its Robin Hood: Origins movie, which is slated for release in 2017 and will star Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) in the title role.
