Prime Video has released a poster and trailer for the director Roger Ross Williams’ biographical drama Cassandro.
Based on the true story of Saúl Armendáriz (played by Gael García Bernal), a gay wrestler or exótico from El Paso, the film follows his journey from his amateur career to his rise to stardom as the luchador known as Cassandro. Watch the trailer below…
Saúl Armendáriz, a gay amateur wrestler from El Paso, rises to international stardom after he creates the character ‘Cassandro,’ the “Liberace of Lucha Libre.” In the process, he upends not just the macho wrestling world, but also his own life.
Featuring alongside Gael García Bernal in the cast of Cassandro are Roberta Colindrez, Perla De La Rosa, Joaquín Cosío, Raúl Castillo, El Hijo del Santo, and Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio.
Cassandro arrives in select cinemas on September 15th before streaming on Prime Video on September 22nd.
