If you think Gal Gadot is taking a while to get out her Cleopatra film, it’s on purpose, or so the actress/producer says.
The film is set to explore the life of the famed Ancient Egyptian ruler, and it’s been a labored process at times. But Gadot wants you to know that she’s taking her time for a reason. Gadot tells Flaunt Magazine that the slow development is out of respect for the character and her real-life story:
“It’s a big task. I don’t want to [rush] making it – it’s something that needs…so much thought and care because it’s Cleopatra. We have incredible writers working on the script – before and after the writer’s strike – like Laeta Kalogridis. It’s a beautiful script. We’re not rushing ourselves because you have to be responsible when you deal with such an incredible, iconic, legendary woman.”
The actress and producer spoke in some detail earlier this year about wanting to redo the story of Cleopatra and give her a bit more respect than history often allowed, stating “We have a beautiful script, and I cannot wait to share this story.”
A slow burn development doesn’t always equate to issues. Kari Skogland took over directing duties on the film, replacing Wonder Woman filmmaker Patty Jenkins. With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes currently happening, no know knows when they’ll get back to perfecting the script and beginning actual production.
