Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin reveals his least favourite scene in the entire TV show

September 30, 2020 by Samuel Brace

George R.R. Martin, the creator of Game of Thrones, has revealed his least favourite scene in the entire TV show adaptation.

When it comes to adapting a book, especially a series as sprawling as A Song of Ice and Fire, there are going to be differences. Author George RR Martin was pretty well involved with HBO’s Game of Thrones and even still there are moments in the series that don’t sit right with him.

What’s his least favourite scene from the show? Well, in the book Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon (via EW), Martin revealed that King Robert’s death is what bugs him most due to its historical inaccuracies:

“In the books, Robert goes off hunting, we get word he was gored by a boar, and they bring him back and he dies. So I never did [a hunting scene]. But I knew what a royal hunting party was like. There would have been a hundred guys. There would have been pavilions. There would have been huntsmen. There would have been dogs. There would have been horns blowing — that’s how a king goes hunting! He wouldn’t have just been walking through the woods with three of his friends holding spears hoping to meet a boar. But at that point, we couldn’t afford horses or dogs or pavilions.”

So it seems the production restraints early on is the cause of the scene failing to live up to Martin’s expectations. Game of Thrones certainly got far bigger and bolder as it went on but for those royal hunt buffs, this scene might cause a few problems.
