HBO has added several more to the growing cast of the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon with Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man), Steve Toussaint (Small Axe), Sonoya Minuzo (Crazy Rich Asians) and Eve Best (Nurse Jackie) joining the series alongside the previously announced Paddy Considine (The Outsider), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) and Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers).
House of the Dragon takes place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows the Targaryen family in the prime of their power in Westeros. However, all is not well as a civil war within the Targaryen family is brewing that will reshape the future of the Seven Kingdoms. and the Targaryen dynasty.
Ifans will play Otto Hightower, “The Hand of the King, Ser Otto loyally and faithfully serves both his king and his realm. As the Hand sees it, the greatest threat to the realm is the king’s brother, Daemon, and his position as heir to the throne.”
Toussaint will play Lord Corlys Velaryon, who “comes from a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen. As ‘The Sea Snake,’ the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros, Lord Corlys built his house into a powerful seat that is even richer than the Lannisters and that claims the largest navy in the world.”
Mizuno plays Mysaria, “who came to Westeros with nothing and has been sold more times than she can recall. She could have wilted… but instead she rose to become the most trusted — and most unlikely — ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne.”
Best will portray Princess Rhaenys Velaryon. “A dragonrider and wife to Lord Corlys Velaryon, ‘The Queen Who Never Was’ was passed over as heir to the throne at the Great Council because the realm favored her cousin, Viserys, simply for being male.”
House of the Dragon is a 10-episode series co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal. Condal penned the script, alongside Sara Lee Hess. He will also serve as co-showrunner alongside Game of Thrones veteran Miguel Sapochnik.
