After almost nine years of build, Game of Thrones served up the battle between the living and the dead this past Sunday, and given how much of an event this final season has become, it will come as little surprise to hear that the extended episode ‘The Long Night’ set not only a series high-rating, but also a network high for HBO.
The action-packed 82-minute episode, the longest in the show’s history, clocked up 17.8 million viewers in total across its two airings on HBO, as well as on HBOGo and HBO Now. That’s 3% up on the season eight premiere episode ‘Winterfell’, making ‘The Long Night’ the most watched episode of any show in HBO history.

With just three episodes to go – and a huge battle for the Iron Throne – we can presumably expect more ratings records from Game of Thrones before the epic fantasy series draws to a close this month.
