According to Deadline, Garrett Hedlund (Mudbound) and Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire) are in talks to star in an adaptation of Tim Winton’s Booker Prize-nominated novel Dirt Music.
The film is being produced by Wildgaze Films (Brooklyn) and Aquarius Films (Lion) and will see Macdonald portraying Georgie, a fragile woman who embarks on an illicit affair with a young poacher (Hedlund) in the Australian outback. However, when Georgie’s partner gets wind of the romance, a chase ensues between the two men across Australia’s remote and unforgiving terrain.
Buffalo Soldiers and Unthinkable helmer Gregor Jordan is directing Dirt Music from a script by the ever-busy Jack Thorne (Wonder, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child).
A film adaptation of the 2002 novel has been in the works for close to a decade now, with Phillip Noyce (Salt, Rabbit Proof Fence) previously attached to the director’s chair.
