George Clooney has secured his next directorial effort, having signed on to direct Hack Attack, an adaptation of Nick Davies’ book of the same name, which explores the News International phone hacking scandal that came to light back in 2011 and ultimately led to the closure of The News of the World.
“This has all the elements – lying, corruption, blackmail – at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London,” said Clooney. “And the fact that it’s true is the best part. Nick is a brave and stubborn reporter and we consider it an honor to put his book to film.”
Clooney is set to produce Hack Attack with regular partner Grant Heslov and filming is set to get underway next year.
