George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chaplin in talks to lead Sam Mendes’ 1917

October 27, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this summer it was announced that director Sam Mendes has found his first project since his two Bond outings in Skyfall and Spectre, with the Oscar-winning filmmaker set to helm the World War I drama 1917 for Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners and Universal Pictures.

Well, it seems that Mendes may now have found his leads for the project, with Deadline reporting that George MacKay (The Secret of Marrowbone) and Dean-Charles Chaplin (Game of Thrones) are in talks to star in the film, which is set to follow two young soldiers as they trek across dangerous terrain during The Great War.

1917 marks Mendes’ second collaboration with Spielberg after 1999’s Best Picture winner American Beauty. Mendes has written the script with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Penny Dreadful) and filming is slated to get underway in April for release in late 2019.
