Di Bonaventura Pictures and MadRiver Pictures have tapped Gerard Butler to lead the cast of The Plane, a real-time action thriller which is based upon the book of the same name by Charles Cumming.
As per Variety, the film will see Butler starring as Ray Torrance, “a commercial pilot who after a heroic job of successfully landing his storm-damaged aircraft in a war zone, finds himself caught between the agendas of multiple militia who are planning to take the plane and its passengers’ hostage. As the world’s authorities and media search for the disappeared aircraft Ray must rise to the occasion and keep his passengers safe long enough for help to arrive.”
Scottish actor Butler was last seen in the action sequel Angel Has Fallen, and reunites with the film’s director Ric Roman Waugh for the survival thriller Greenland. He’s also set to feature in the Jamie Foxx-directed comedy All-Star Weekend and is attached to a sequel to 2018’s Den of Thieves.
