Ghost House Pictures to reboot The Grudge

March 24, 2014 by admin

Just ten years after it first remade the movie for American audiences, Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures is to reboot The Grudge, Takashi Shimazu’s English-language remake of his own 2002 Japanese chiller Ju-On: The Grudge.

Released in 2004, The Grudge starred Sarah Michelle Gellar and proved to be a huge hit for Ghost House, banking $187 million from a budget of just $10 million, and spawning two sequels in 2006 and 2009 to diminishing returns.

The reboot will be written by Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train), with Raimi producing alongside his regular partner Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise. This is the second planned reboot for Buhler, who also has a remake of Jacob’s Ladder on his slate.
