Ghostbusters: Afterlife pushed another three months to June 2021

October 22, 2020 by Liam Waddington

The highly-anticipated Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the follow-up film to Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, has been hit by another delay by Sony Pictures.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was originally intended to arrive in theatres this summer, but was pushed back to March 5th, 2021 due to the ongoing global health crisis. Now, Sony Pictures has decided to delay the film a little further to June 11th, 2021, allowing it to release in the middle of the summer box office season.

Although fans of the Ghostbusters franchise are going to have to wait slightly longer for the sequel, star Ernie Hudson, who is set to reprise his role as Winston Zeddemore, has previously claimed that Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the sequel “fans have been hoping for” and will completely tie into the first two Ghostbusters movies.

“There have been so many announcements and so many things that fell apart. It wasn’t until I got the script and read the script that I thought, ‘Not only is it happening, but this is really good,’” Hudson said. “It’s really in line with what the fans have been hoping for, and it really ties into the first two movies.”

From writer and director Jason Reitman, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the next chapter in the Ghostbusters universe and follows a single mother and her two children who arrive in a small town and begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman and stars Carrie Coon (The Leftovers), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Mckenna Grace (Captain Marvel), Paul Rudd (Avengers: Endgame), Bokeem Woodbine (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Celeste O’Connor (Wetlands), Oliver Cooper (Mindhunter) and newcomer Logan Kim, along with returning Ghostbusters cast members Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz), Bill Murray (Peter Venkman), Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore), Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barrett), and Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz).
