This should come as little surprise to anyone, but it looks like Paul Feig has met with and is eyeing up Melissa McCarthy (St. Vincent) to take the lead in his all-female Ghostbusters reboot.
Sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that the actress has been in contact with Feig, but problems have arisen due to her busy schedule. Not only does she have CBS comedy Mike & Molly, but she’s also looking to shoot Universal comedy Michelle Darnell, which will be directed by her husband and Tammy collaborator Ben Falcone.
So, the sources claim it’s all up in the air. Feig is keen for her to star, and McCarthy is trying to re-arrange her Michelle Darnell shooting schedule so she can feature in Ghostbusters.
Her St. Vincent co-star and original Ghostbuster Bill Murray vouched for her casting in an interview last year.
While nothing is confirmed, McCarthy now joins a list of female talent contacted for the Ghostbusters reboot that also includes Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect) and Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1). Also rumoured to be involved are Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids), Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Linda Cardelini (Scooby-Doo).
Are we to believe these rumours? Or is it just to obvious to put Melissa McCarthy and Paul Feig together? Let us know in the comments section below:
