Glee’s Chris Colfer to write and direct adaptation of The Wishing Spell

June 14, 2017 by Ricky Church

Glee alum Chris Colfer is set to make his directorial debut with The Wishing Spell, an adaptation of the first book in his young adult series The Land of Stories, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In addition to directing, Colfer will also write the script for 20th Century Fox and Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps.

Colfer began writing The Land of Stories in the final years of Glee with The Wishing Spell published in 2012. Since then, he has written another book in the series each year. The series has been very successful and now includes an illustrated picture book and an upcoming graphic novel. It follows twins Alex and Connor Bailey as they travel the worlds of the stories they loved as children. The final book in the series, Worlds Collide, will hit stores in July.

The synopsis for The Wishing Spell reads:

Alex and Conner’s biggest fear has come true. The Land of Stories fairy-tale characters—both heroes and villains—are no longer confined to their world! With sinister plans being put into motion by Morina, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Queen of Hearts, Captain Hook, and the rest of their evil literary army, Conner doesn’t think the situation can get any worse. That is, until Alex goes missing!

While mayhem brews in the Big Apple, Conner and his friends will have to fight their biggest battle yet. But without Alex by his side, Conner doesn’t know how he will win the war and keep everyone he loves safe. Can Conner find Alex before it’s too late? And can the twins restore order between the human and fairy-tale worlds?

Shawn Levy will produce with Dan Levine while Rob Weisbach and Colfer are executive producing.
