Godzilla and King Kong will continue their frenemies’ journey as Warner Bros. and Legendary are gearing up for another MonsterVerse movie.
Following this year’s surprise hit, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the studios are looking to strike while the iron is hot and have tapped a new writer.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings screenwriter Dave Callaham will pen this new script. Callaham is familiar with the franchise as he wrote the early drafts and received a story by credit for 2014’s Godzilla.
The latest film has grossed close to $555 million worldwide. This marks the biggest haul since 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, which peaked at $568 million. For comparison, 2021’s Godzilla vs Kong only made $470.1 million. Even more impressively, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire could be the most profitable in the Monsterverse, with the film only costing $135 million to produce.
