Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has stomped its way to a worldwide bow of $194 million at the box-office.
The Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment MonsterVerse movie exceeded expectations at the North American box-office, collecting a Titan-sized $80 million, and its footprint around the world was just as impressive, crushing the competition with $114 million from the international markets, the biggest of which was China with $44 million.
Directed by Godzilla vs. Kong‘s Adam Wingard, and starring Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Dan Stevens, the $135 million budgeted The New Empire earned an A- score from cinemagoers (you can read our ★★ review here), and already stands as the third highest grossing movie of 2024 after just three days of release.
There was reason to celebrate all-round for Warner Bros. and Legendary, as another of their blockbusters, Dune: Part Two, continued to do stellar business at the global box-office. The Denis Villeneuve-directed sequel took its worldwide tally to $626.1 million, making it 2024’s highest-grossing movie to-date.
Last weekend’s champ Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire took a huge hit, dropping 65% at the North American box-office with $15.7 million. After 10-days the $100 million budgeted sequel has grossed $73.4 million at the domestic box office and $108.5 million globally.
