Good news, everyone! Hulu has released our first look at the new season of Matt Groening’s Futurama with a premiere date of July 24th. Watch the teaser below…
Futurama first premiered in 1999 and followed Philip J. Fry as he was cryogenically frozen just as the new millennium rung in and woke up in the year 3000. He got a job at his great-great-great-descendant’s company where he works with the one-eyed alien Leela and foul-mouthed robot Bender. The series originally ran for four seasons on Fox until it was revived with four direct-to-DVD films followed by two additional seasons on Comedy Central. The synopsis for the second revival reads:
New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries – including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler’s litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles. Meanwhile there’s a whole new pandemic in town as the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV.
Hulu will air the premiere on July 24th with new episodes airing Monday. The streamer ordered 20 episodes with this season and the next consisting of 10 episodes each, ensuring we’ll be seeing plenty more of the Planet Express crew.
Futurama will see the return of original voice stars Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman. Groening and co-creator David X. Cohen will executive produce alongside Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz.
Futurama will premiere on July 24th.
